Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 July 2026
This draft was prepared to give Fetcho a complete, launch-shaped Privacy Policy and should be reviewed by a qualified Australian legal professional before you rely on it — particularly the entity details below, which contain placeholders only you can fill in.
1. Who we are
Fetcho (Fetcho, we, us) is operated by [Company Legal Name] (ABN [ABN]) of [Registered Address], Australia. We are committed to handling your personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
2. Information we collect
We collect the following information when you use Fetcho:
- Account information: email address and password (stored securely by our authentication provider, never in plain text), and date of birth (used only to confirm you meet the minimum age and is not shown to other users).
- Profile information: display name, profile photo, suburb and postcode.
- Dog information: your dog's name, breed, date of birth, size, gender, personality tags, vaccination status, and photos.
- Location information: your approximate coordinates, if you choose to use the Near me search feature.
- Messages: content you send to other users you have matched with.
- Reports and blocks: details you provide when reporting or blocking another user.
- Usage information: standard technical information such as session cookies used to keep you signed in. We do not currently use analytics or advertising cookies.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account, and verify you meet our minimum age requirement.
- Show your dog's profile to other users and let you discover other dogs nearby.
- Power search by suburb and the Near me and Near your search discovery features.
- Deliver match requests, notifications, and messages between matched users.
- Investigate reports and enforce our Terms of Service, including blocking abusive users.
- Send you service emails (such as password resets) and, only if you opt in, marketing emails.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
4. How we handle location data specifically
Your precise coordinates are never shown to other users. When you use Near me or appear in another user's Near your search results, other users see only your suburb or an approximate distance in kilometres — never your exact location. You can use the Service with suburb search alone and never share precise location.
5. Who we share information with
We share information with the service providers who help us run Fetcho, under contractual obligations to protect it:
- Supabase — our database, authentication, and file storage provider. Some of our infrastructure is hosted outside Australia; by using the Service you consent to this overseas storage of your information.
- Resend — used to deliver transactional emails, such as report notifications.
- Google — if you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google to create your account.
We may also disclose information where required by law, or to protect the safety of our users.
Other Fetcho users can see the profile and dog information you choose to make public (name, photos, breed, suburb, personality tags), and can see messages you send them directly.
6. Data security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections, hashed passwords, and database-level access controls that restrict each user to their own data. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Data retention and deletion
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, dog profiles, messages, match history, and reports from our database. Photos you have uploaded are removed from display immediately; we work to fully remove the underlying files from storage as part of the same process.
If you do not delete your account, we retain your information for as long as it is needed to provide the Service, plus any additional period required to meet our legal obligations.
8. Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you and to request correction of inaccurate information. You can access and update most of your information directly from your Profile and Settings pages, or contact us at hello@fetcho.au.
If you have a complaint about how we have handled your personal information, contact us first so we can try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
9. Children's privacy
Fetcho is not directed at, and must not be used by, anyone under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.
10. Marketing communications
We will only send you marketing emails if you opt in via Settings, and you can opt out at any time from the same page or by using the unsubscribe link in the email.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or an in-app notice before they take effect.
12. Contact us
